Southwark Cathedral has been awarded a grant of £12,765 from the First World War Centenary Fabric Repair Fund, the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced today.

The grant will allow the Cathedral to install urgent new rainwater disposal arrangements to protect the north wall of the Harvard Chapel, the archaeological chamber of Southwark Cathedral and the surviving remains of the original Norman priory. These parts of the Cathedral are currently at enormous risk from damage during periods of heavy rain, and the grant will enable the ongoing preservation of the ancient parts of Cathedral to continue.

The Cathedral is most grateful for the support of the Fund, following on from their most generous grant of £325,000, given in 2014 for vital roof repairs.
