The Bishop of Southwark, The Rt Revd Christopher Chessun has appointed the Bishop of Croydon, The Rt Revd Jonathan Clark, as the new Chair of the Southwark Diocesan Board of Education. He succeeds the Bishop of Kingston, the Rt Revd Dr Richard Cheetham, who has been Chair for the past 13 years. Bishop Jonathan will take over the role on 1 September 2015.

Commenting on the appointment Bishop Christopher, who is the President of the Diocesan Board of Education, said: 'I am delighted that Bishop Jonathan has agreed to take over as Chair of the Board of Education. Bishop Richard has led the Board with great wisdom for the last thirteen years and has seen it through many changes in the education system. Bishop Jonathan will bring enthusiasm and experience to the task. He is well placed to support the officers and to help them to take the work of the Board forward and to strengthen partnerships within the Diocese in support of our educational chaplaincies and 106 Church of England schools'.

Bishop Jonathan said, 'It is a privilege to be asked to Chair the Board. The work that we do in our church schools and chaplaincies is so important as it helps to shape lives for the future. I look forward to getting to know the staff of the Board, the schools and other educational institutions and working with them in the coming years.'
