Archdeacon of Croydon

Chris Skilton was born in Uxbridge in 1955 and educated at Latymer School. He read English at Magdalene College, Cambridge and obtained a PGCE at Goldsmith's College. After studying theology at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford, he was ordained Deacon in 1980. He served his title at St Mary's, Ealing and was priested in 1981. He arrived in Southwark Diocese in 1995 as Team Rector of the Sanderstead Team Ministry via service in Salisbury and Chelmsford Dioceses. He spent nine years as Archdeacon of Lambeth before moving to Croydon in April 2013.

Chris is married to Barbara and they have three grown up children and one grandchild with whom they very much enjoy spending time. In his spare time Chris is interested in gardening, cricket, recent British politics and 'The Archers'.

Chris was installed as Archdeacon of Croydon in Southwark Cathedral on Sunday 14 April 2013.

Archdeacon of Reigate

Daniel Kajumba was born in 1952 in Uganda. Having been exiled to Britain during Idi Amin's regime in Uganda, he worked at different times in a factory, as an auxiliary nurse, a youth officer, deputy warden of a Christian hostel and as proprietor of a home for the elderly before training for the ministry on the Southwark Ordination Course. He was priested in 1986, serving his curacy in St Albans Diocese before returning to Uganda in 1987 where he served as a non-stipendiary minister whilst working as a senior executive in the Ugandan Government and later as the Secretary General of the Kingdom of Buganda, in what is now southern Uganda.

He is married to Tina and they have two children.

Archdeacon of Lambeth

Simon Gates was born in 1960 and studied at St John’s College, Cranmer Hall, University of Durham.  He was ordained Deacon in 1987 and Priest in 1988 and served his title at St John’s Southall, in London Diocese.   He then became Associate Minister of St Andrew’s Kowloon in Hong Kong for 4 years before moving to the Diocese of Southwark.  He was Vicar of St Thomas with St Stephen, Telford Park, for 17 years and Area Dean of Lambeth South Deanery.  Before he was ordained he taught English at an Anglican school in Macau.

He is married to Helen, who is a self employed HR consultant and has three children.  His two elder daughters attend St Martin in the Fields High School for Girls and his son Henry Cavendish School Balham. He enjoys hiking, gardening, and cooking for others. 

Simon was installed as Archdeacon of Lambeth in Southwark Cathedral on Sunday 29 September 2013.

The Venerable John Kiddle

John Kiddle was born and brought up in Africa. He studied at Queens’ College, Cambridge and Ridley Hall and was ordained Deacon in 1982 and priest in 1983, serving his curacy and first incumbency in the Diocese of Liverpool.

He then moved to the Diocese of St Albans and held a number of roles there, ending his time in the Diocese as Director of Mission and Residentiary Canon of St Albans Abbey.

He remains interested in matters related to Africa, enjoys walking and is a keen supporter of Watford Football Club.

John was installed as Archdeacon of Wandsworth in Southwark Cathedral on Sunday 22 November.

The Venerable Alastair Cutting

The Venerable Alastair Cutting

Archdeacon of Lewisham & Greenwich

Alastair was born in 1960, and grew up in South India where four generations of his family lived and worked for nearly a century. His parents were doctors at a rural hospital; and he subsequently spent a gap year working with the Salvation Army in South India, between school and a teaching & youth work degree at university in Birmingham. After theological college at St. John’s Nottingham and ordination in 1987 and a couple of curacies in the Diocese of Sheffield, he served in London and Chichester Dioceses before moving to Southwark.  He has served as Pro-Prolocutor of the Province of Canterbury of the General Synod; and is a member of the Church of England Evangelical Council. 

Alastair's Masters dissertation was on Maori and Celtic Spirituality. He is a keen musician, an average busking keyboard player, with has an interest in the arts and film. He is married to Kay, and they have two grown up daughters; the family has strong links with New Zealand.

Alastair was installed as Archdeacon of Lewisham & Greenwich in Southwark Cathedral on Sunday 14 April 2013.

The Venerable Dr Jane Steen

The Venerable Dr Jane Steen

Archdeacon of Southwark

Jane Steen was born in 1964 and studied at Newnham and Trinity Colleges, Cambridge and Westcott House. She served her title in the Diocese of St Albans before moving to the Diocese of Southwark as Chaplain to Bishop Tom Butler. Before being appointed as Archdeacon of Southwark she was Director of Ministerial Education and Canon Theologian for the Diocese of Southwark and Canon Chancellor of Southwark Cathedral. She is a member of the Joint Implementation Committee for the Anglican Methodist Covenant. 

Her PhD dissertation was on Samuel Johnson’s Anglicanism and she maintains a continuing academic interest in Samuel Johnson, lecturing and taking part in conferences. Married to Preston (Pip) she enjoys reading, walking, cooking and gardening on a small scale.

Jane was installed as Archdeacon of Southwark in Southwark Cathedral on Sunday 14 April 2013.
